Marketing Assistant

London, Full Time, £23,000 per annum

An exciting and rare opportunity to work within the UK Music Industry, we are looking for a Marketing Assistant to join us at Printed Music Licensing Ltd (PMLL) to assist with the creation and running of marketing strategies, social media campaigns and raising brand awareness, with an overall aim to maximise the uptake of new and existing licences.

About PMLL

PMLL represents the rights of music publishers and issues licences on behalf of the rights-holders permitting the reproduction of printed music in education and other sectors. The licence allows users to make photocopies of printed music (and digitally downloaded printed music); as well as making further arrangements of legitimately acquired printed music under the terms and conditions of the licences.

PMLL has over 130 music publisher members ranging from the majors such as Universal, Sony, and Warner Chappell to print publishers such as Faber, Hal Leonard and Oxford University Press and independent publishers such as Beggars Music and Bucks Music.

Our licence allows users to make photocopies of printed music (and digitally downloaded printed music)  The licence fees paid to PMLL are distributed as royalties to the rights-holder members.

About the Role

Reporting to the PMLL Managing Director, the Marketing Assistant will conduct research into relevant markets, plan, and implement individual marketing strategies for the different existing and new PMLL Licences, as well as creating website and social media content and monitoring its’ effectiveness.

Some of the key responsibilities include:
  • Implementing marketing initiatives in line the PMLL’s Marketing budget.
  • Researching into the relevant markets that PMLL will provide licences for to gain a better understanding of the market/stakeholders.
  • Ensuring PMLL has a strong social media presence and creating engaging and current content for all platforms and our website, such as news stories, photos and videos.
  • Responding to press and general enquiries, writing press releases and creating assets as needed.
  • Representing the PMLL at external events as required, sometimes outside of working hours.
  • Represent the MPA at internal and external industry events such as meetings, panels, tradeshows, receptions, and other networking occasions and working groups.

About you

Whilst previous experience within the Music Industry would be valued, we are keen to attract applicants from any sector and background. We’d like you to be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and qualities:

  • Good IT and systems skills with the ability to learn new systems and applications easily. In particular previous experience of working with the following systems is essential:
    • WordPress
    • Mailchimp
    • Survey Monkey
    • Entry design software such as Canva and Photoshop (good design skills are desirable)
    • Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with Social Media and ability to maximise social channels, in particular Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as evidenced by an established online presence.
  • Good writing and general communication skills, as evidenced through publicised written material and creation of copy, blogs, social media and/or journalism.
  • Videography and DSLR photography skills are desirable.
  • Ability to manage and organise a varied workload, delivering to deadlines.
  • Charisma, enthusiasm and good interpersonal skills, with the ability to forge new relationships.
  • Takes initiative and spots opportunities.
  • A genuine passion for and interest in music, the music industry and print music publishing is a must.
